Shills List

Welcome to my shills list! A shills list is a list of works that I greatly enjoy, enough so that I'll point to them here and say "this, this is good". The advantage of a shills list is that people often have similar clusters of tastes, and sometimes you'll have enjoyed a few works in that cluster and want to see more; or perhaps you just want an insight into Tetraspace's soul, see what works of fiction really resonate with her. Maybe you're an aspiring fiction-matchmaker, and you want to see what I already like to make some good additional matches (🥺 Send them if so? 👉👈)!

The concept of a shills list is something that I came across with Makin's shills list, which sure contains a lot of things that I like, and almost forms a canon of something that's not exactly but related to rationalfic (rational-adjacent-fic? 😜). I make no promises of being as canonical, but I hope you enjoy!

Shill	Description
Hello Charlotte EP1: Junk Food, Gods and Teddy Bears / EP2: Requiem Aeternam Deo / Delirium / EP3: Childhood's End / Heaven's Gate	Game. Indie RPG about a kid who lives in the House, and the Puppeteer behind the computer screen who controls her. She babysits her alien housemate's nephew, and some other stuff happens, and it gets the psychological horror tag on Steam and I cry at the end. Omori	Game. Indie RPG about an emotionless kid who lives in a blank void. He goes to have a picnic with his friends in a surreal dreamworld, but one goes missing, and some other stuff happens, and it gets the psychological horror tag on Steam and I cry at the end. Link (Steam, £15.49).
Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality	Online book. Harry Potter is raised by scientists and brings the Muggle magics of science and rationality to bear on Magical Britain. Link (author's site).
Last and First Men / Star Maker	Book. 1930s science fiction. Last and First Men is a history of the entire future of humankind, from the present day to when the Sun burns out. Unsong	Online book. Speaking the Names of God performs miracles, and theology megacorporations have went straight to work creating sweatshops to brute-force search for them. Link (author's site).
The Last Transmission of Frodo Baggins	Online short story. Lord of the Rings fanfiction. Frodo Baggins sails into the west. There are 178 citations at the end to various scientific papers and Tolkien books. Link (author's site on Wayback Machine).
no-one has to die.	Online puzzle game. 4 people are trapped in a building fire and need your help to escape. Link (Newsgrounds).
Ed Stories / Fine Structure / Ra	Web serials. Seemingly unrelated short stories about a world with new physics and some scientists putting it to good use that come together later. Things escalate. The world is destroyed, but there are spares. Ed, Fine Structure, and Ra are totally different web serials, but they're the same genre, I like them for the same reason, and the author writes it well. Puella Magi Madoka Magica	Anime. Fighting monsters full-time after being recruited with incomplete information does not actually turn out to be the best way for teenagers to flourish. Link (KissCartoon).
Pantheon	Animated show. A girl recieves help from an online stranger who is a U.I., an uploaded intelligence, held trapped on the corporation Logorrythm's servers. Link (KissCartoon).
Kindness to Kin	Short story. A silvery sphere descends from the sky to visit some psychologically-alien aliens. Link (Reddit).
Bitter Wind Lullaby / Bitter Wind March	Hymn. A pair of songs; a lullaby for a child in the stone age shivering in the cold and then-deadly winter. Listen to them in order! Lullaby Link (Bandcamp), March Link (Bandcamp).
